Let’s just establish one thing:  I’ve come up with some goofy ideas.  There was the “Summer of the Popsicle” (I bought a different kind of popsicle every time I went to the store), the “canoe-the-entire-length-of-the-South Loup River” escapade (major fail) and the “don’t-cut-your-hair-for-a-year” project (my wife’s favorite and still ongoing).  These projects/ideas have met with varying degrees of acceptance and success.  Many of them were launched just to see if I could do it (often I couldn’t).  The First 53 is of the same ilk.  The idea is to ride one mile for every year I have been alive on nearly successive days beginning with a one mile ride on day one and a two mile ride on day two and so on.  While I’m carrying out the physical part of this project I will be blogging about each year of my life and posting pictures on my Facebook page.  I am certain the writing part is do-able; the riding part will be a big challenge especially since I haven’t been on the bike in over a year.  Regardless of the level of success I am sure it will be illuminating and I hope entertaining.
